Shipping & Delivery FAQ
Do you ship internationally?Â
Yes. The Rug Decor offers free shipping around the world  and supports checkout in 14 currencies, including USD, GBP, EUR (France, Germany, Italy), CAD, AUD, INR, BRL, DKK, ILS, PEN, SAR, and CHF. For specific delivery timelines or customs details by country, refer to the Shipping and Return Policy page.
What are the shipping options available?
The Rug Decor offers complimentary standard delivery on all rug orders worldwide via UPS, FedEx, or DHL, with delivery in 3 to 10 business days. Orders are processed and shipped within 1 to 3 business days, and a shipping confirmation email with tracking is sent once the order leaves the warehouse. Made-to-order rugs typically take 10 to 60 days as they are crafted to specification.Â
How are the shipping costs calculated?
Shipping costs are not calculated. The Rug Decor offers complimentary standard shipping on all rug orders worldwide via UPS, FedEx, or DHL, regardless of order size or destination. The only additional charges that may apply are import duties, taxes, or customs fees imposed by the destination country on international orders, which are paid directly to the shipping carrier or customs office upon delivery and are not included in the order total.
What about creases or marks after delivery?
Creasing or folding marks from packaging will typically disappear once the rug lies flat for a couple of days. If marks persist after 72 hours, contact support.
Why do handmade rugs take longer to deliver?Â
Handmade rugs take longer because each piece is crafted to order, not pulled from inventory. The Rug Decor's made-to-order hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and hand-loomed rugs require 10 to 60 days for production, depending on size, design complexity, and construction type. Hand-knotting alone involves tying thousands to over a million knots individually, followed by manual washing, stretching, and finishing. Once produced, standard shipping adds 3 to 10 business days via UPS, FedEx, or DHL. For faster delivery, choose from the In-Stock Ready-to-Ship Rugs collection.
Returns & Exchanges FAQ
What is the returns & exchange policy?
Free returns are accepted if the rug is defective, damaged in transit, or significantly differs from the product images. If you change your mind or it doesn’t fit your space by preference, you are responsible for return shipping. For certain larger sizes (e.g., 10x14 and 12x15), returns are not accepted unless due to manufacturing/shipping damage.
Can I expect size or shape variations in a handmade rug?
Yes — slight variations in length or width (typically within ±3 inches) are expected and normal due to the artisanal crafting process.
What if my order arrives damaged?
For damaged or defective rugs, The Rug Decor offers complimentary return shipping for any rug that arrives with a manufacturer's defect or was damaged during transit. To initiate a claim, email customer service at info@therugdecor.com with your order number and reason for return within the 30-day return window from delivery. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5 to 7 business days after inspection.Â
Product & Materials FAQ
What materials are your rugs made from?
The Rug Decor offers rugs in six core materials: wool, silk, jute, bamboo silk, sisal, and leather. Made-to-order rugs additionally include art silk, linen, natural wool, and viscose options. Wool is the most popular choice for durability and softness, silk and bamboo silk add a luxurious sheen, jute and sisal provide natural and eco-friendly textures, and leather offers a unique tactile finish. Material selection should be based on the room's traffic level, desired feel underfoot, and overall design aesthetic.
Are your rugs eco-friendly?
Yes, several rug categories at The Rug Decor are eco-friendly. The collection includes natural-fiber rugs in wool, jute, sisal, and bamboo silk, all of which are biodegradable and sourced from renewable materials. Made-to-order rugs also offer eco-friendly recycled material options alongside premium wool. Handmade construction methods (hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-loomed, and flat-woven) further reduce the carbon footprint compared to machine-made synthetic alternatives. For the most sustainable choice, opt for natural wool or jute rugs in handmade constructions.Â
Is this rug pet-friendly?
Yes, this rug is pet-friendly! The natural wool fibers are durable and resistant to pet hair, making it easy to clean. However, please note that, like any wool rug, it can be prone to some minor shedding initially, which is typical of handmade rugs. Regular vacuuming will help maintain its look. If your pet is particularly rough on rugs, consider using a rug pad to prevent excessive wear.

Care & Maintenance FAQ
How do I clean my rug?
Clean your rug based on its material and construction. For routine care, vacuum weekly using suction-only mode (avoid beater bars on wool, silk, and hand-knotted rugs) and rotate every 6 months for even wear. For spills, blot immediately with a clean white cloth using cold water and a mild detergent for wool, water-only for silk and bamboo silk, and dry-blot only for jute and sisal (moisture causes warping). Hand-knotted and hand-tufted wool rugs should be professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months. Washable rugs and outdoor rugs can be hosed down or machine washed per the product label. Always test any cleaning solution on a hidden area first, and use a rug pad to reduce wear.
What is the best way to protect my rug from wear and tear?
Protect your rug by combining a quality rug pad, regular rotation, and proper cleaning habits. Place a non-slip rug pad underneath to reduce friction with the floor, prevent slipping, and add cushioning that extends fiber life. Rotate the rug 180 degrees every 6 months to distribute foot traffic and sun exposure evenly. Vacuum weekly using suction-only mode to prevent dirt buildup that grinds down fibers, and blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth to prevent staining. Keep the rug out of direct sunlight to avoid fading, especially for wool, silk, and naturally dyed pieces.Â
Do you offer any rug cleaning services?
No. The Rug Decor does not offer rug cleaning services. The brand specializes in handmade rug manufacturing and home decor products, not aftercare services. For cleaning, follow the care guidelines on the blog for routine maintenance, or hire a local professional rug cleaner for deep cleaning every 12 to 18 months. For protection between cleanings, use a non-slip rug pad and vacuum weekly with suction-only mode.
Sizing & Customization FAQ
How do I choose the right rug size?
Choose your rug size based on the room dimensions and furniture layout. For living rooms, opt for an 8x10 or 9x12 to fit all or front furniture legs on the rug; for bedrooms, choose 8x10 (queen) or 9x12 (king) to extend 18 to 24 inches around the bed; for dining rooms, pick a size where chairs stay on the rug when pulled out (typically 8x10 or 9x12); for hallways and kitchens, use runners (2x6 or 2x8). The general rule is to leave 12 to 18 inches of bare floor between the rug edge and the wall. The Rug Decor offers a free Rug Size Calculator and Rug Quiz to find your exact fit, with 90+ sizes available, plus made-to-order rugs for custom dimensions.
Is there a size guide I can reference?
Yes. The Rug Decor offers two free tools to help you find the right size: the Rug Size Calculator, which recommends dimensions based on your room measurements and furniture layout, and the Rug Quiz, which suggests rug sizes and styles based on your space and preferences. Standard sizes available include 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, 5x8, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, runners, and round rugs, with 90+ total sizes across the catalog. For non-standard dimensions, the Made-to-Order Rugs collection offers custom sizing from 1x1 up to 12.5x16.
Do you offer different rug shapes?
Yes. The Rug Decor offers rugs in three primary shapes: rectangle, round, and square. Rectangles are the most common and suit living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas. Round rugs work well under circular dining tables, in entryways, or to soften sharp room corners. Square rugs fit symmetrical layouts and smaller spaces. Additionally, runner rugs (long, narrow rectangles) are available for hallways, kitchens, and alongside beds. For custom shapes or non-standard proportions, the Made-to-Order collection accommodates specific design requirements.
